Jag har aldrig varit speciellt snabbt, utan mer av en seg jävel som lyckas hitta både andra och tredje andningen på tävling och träning. Och det är inte för att jag inte försökt. När jag tränade friidrott (medeldistans) så tränade jag bl a hopp och sprint, men inte gick det snabbare för det och någon spurtare var jag aldrig. I måndags så upptäckte jag dock något som jag aldrig upplevt förut. Det blåste väl en sådär styv bris, som det ofta gör i Skåne. Planen var först att ta ut longboarden för lite vågsurf, men jag lyckades inte få med något sällskap och ville inte gå ut själv. I stället blir det ett landsvägspass. Jag vet, alla tycker att man är dum i huvudet som cyklar när det blåser, men jag gillar det faktiskt. Både mot- och medvind är härligt att cykla i. I medvinden så går det ruskigt snabbt och i motvinden så får man känna sig ruskigt stark. För att krydda solopasset (jag cyklar helst med sällskap) så satte jag upp några strava-sträckor som jag ville ta QOM (Queen of the mountain – dvs snabbast tid) på, varav en är den klassiska Vinningebacken. Jag körde en kort uppvärmning och hade en annan sträcka som första ”intervall”, en kort men (med skånska mått mätt) relativt hård backe och jag tog i. Och som jag tog i, så mycket att jag blev helt slut efter denna korta (500 meter långa) backe. Jag har aldrig varit med om att jag lyckats tömma mig helt under en så kort tid (under en minut). Jag brukar ju ligga och humma på 1500 varv som en gammal diselmotor, å andra sidan tar jag inte slut. Det var ett ganska kort pass, drygt en timme med mycket rull emellan intervallerna, men jag kände av denna första kraftansträngning hela passet. Häftig känsla av att kanske lyckas lura fram lite snabba muskelfibrer ändå, så här när man börjar nå medelåldern. 
En annan egenuppfattning som kommit på skam den senaste veckan är min puls. Många gör pulstester för att se var de har sin maxplus och mjölksyratröskel, men jag har inte gjort det eftersom jag ändå inte planerar min träning något speciellt. För några år sedan hade jag dock ganska bra på var min tröskel låg och var min optimala arbetsnivå var. På den tiden sprang lag mest landsväg och kunde ha pulsen som riktmärke under träning och tävling. För snart fem år sedan fick jag barn och la därmed ”karriären” på hyllan. Visst jag tränade lite för att hålla mig i form och framförallt för att gå ner i vikt. Jag blev sjukt tung under graviditeten. Jag lyckades inte hålla mig så länge utan anmälde mig till en halvmara ett år efter jag fått Gunnar. Lite småfel och med allt annat ön fokuserad träning så kom jag ändå trea och sprang inte så långt från pers. Så på den vägen är det. Pulsen då? Någonting måste ha hänt. Tidigare hade jag arbetspuls på 165-175 och mjölksyratröskel på 185. Nu kunde jag inte komma upp i 150 ens. Jag tänkte att det kanske var något som hänt i och med barnafödandet och att min maxpuls måste gått ner. På ett hårt träningspass idag ligger jag på en snittpuls på 145 och kör jag intervall så är jag kanske uppe på 158. Förra veckan så körde jag dock ett snabbdistanspass på 6 km. Det här med snabbdistans och itnervaller är för mig relativt nygammalt. När jag la skorna på hyllan så slutade jag att träna obekvämt och kör bara roliga pass. I höstas så började jag ändå köra lite intervall och snabbdistans då jag vill bli lite snabbare för att kunna köra lite kortare lopp i år. Så, snabbdistans och efter många veckor av förkylningar så känns kroppen rätt seg, men jag lyckas hålla en jämn fart och snittpulsen? 170!!! Va? Maxpuls? 202. Det är inte möjligt. Jag har mao varit kliniskt död under passet. Jag inser så här i efterhand att det nog är det faktum att jag är lite lat som gör att jag inte får upp pulsen på mina vanliga träningspass. Eller lat, förresten. Fick höra att det heter ”bekväm” när man är vuxen. Det är bara barn och tonåringar som är ”lata”.
Jag har fått lära mig av några elitlångdistansare på längdskidor att för att kunna jobba nära sin maxpuls, dvs för att kroppen ska klara komma upp i maxpuls, så måste man träna varierat och nyttja hela sitt pulsintervall. För skidåkarna betyder detta att både köra sk A1, A2 och A3 pass, så att kroppen både får pressa max genom tuffa intervaller och ligga och mata långpass på låg puls. En av skidåkarna, en tjej, hade haft problem att komma upp i sin maxpuls i en period och det visade sig bero på att hon nästan uteslutande legat i ett smalt ganska högt pulsintervall under nästan all sin träning under en lång period. Hon fick då börja köra många långa långsamma löppass igen varvat med tuffa intervaller, och så småningom klarade kroppen ställa om och hon kunde återigen komma upp i sin maxpuls. Jag kan inte förklara fysiologin bakom detta, men det verkar som om kroppen vänjer sig vid en pulsnivå om man inte varierar sin träning. Hur som helst tycker jag det var en intressant lärdom och min lekmannateori är att detta är det som vanliga motionärer gör fel när de påstår sig aldrig bli snabbare eller bättre – de jobbar bara i ett och samma snäva pulsintervall och hoppar inte bara över intervallerna men också de riktigt långa lugna passen.
